What you'll learn week by week
Week 1: Interface, theory and drums
Ableton setup and workflow: Configure audio, manage projects and navigate Live confidently.
Session View and clips: Create, launch and organize clips and scenes to build ideas quickly.
Drum programming: Program straight and broken beats, and edit MIDI and velocity.
Music theory basics: Play scales, build triads and create a first chord progression.
Week 2: Composition and audio
Chords and basslines: Develop chord progressions and supporting bass parts.
Melodies and layering: Write melodies and layer musical parts into a fuller idea.
Working with audio: Add loops and warp audio and full songs to tempo.
Audio effects 101: Use EQ, compression, reverb and delay with sends and returns.
Week 3: Arrangement
Arrangement View: Record your ideas into the timeline and structure song sections.
Sampling with Simpler: Chop and tune samples, record MIDI, and freeze and flatten.
Variation and transitions: Create fills, changes and transitions that keep the arrangement moving.
Automation and finishing touches: Add movement, detail and final production touches.
Week 4: Workshopping and mixing
Track workshopping: Finalize your arrangement with instructor feedback.
Mixing fundamentals: Balance levels, shape sounds with EQ and clean up the mix.
Demo mastering and export: Prepare a presentable demo master and export your track correctly.
Final presentation and next steps: Share your finished track and plan what to work on next.
